Myself, Gareth Harvey and Rachel Kingham set out from Ogwen. The thaw is underway and the valley bottom was quite stripped of snow. We were heading to Y Gribin but got distracted by the Nant Bochlwyd. Turns out it makes an excellent low-grade ice route, and certainly much more fun than the path beside it.
From there we climbed the False Gribin (grade I/II). I can't understand why it doesn't see more traffic; it significantly extends the enjoyment for those on route to Y Gribin. Anyway, we were the first on the route and breaking trail through deep snow was a chore in places, but the climbing sections are good and there was a bit of ice about. We spied two climbers in Central Gully (Glyder Fach) before the weather closed in.
We topped out on the Football Pitch and decided to descend down the bottom of Y Gribin as I was feeling rather ill, and we were running out of daylight. A fantastic day anyway, though still not much sign of the snow firming up.
